THE STORY BEHIND THE SEIKOLOGIST
It started with
“choose one”.
A love of watches, passed down by my grandfather. A love of Seiko that followed.
My late grandfather loved watches. He loved a bargain even more.
Whenever he returned from holiday, he would bring back a handmade pouch fashioned from kitchen roll. Inside were around a dozen quartz watches, bought at local markets for very little money. As a young boy, I couldn’t wait to see what would emerge as he unrolled this makeshift watch roll.
Then came the words I’d been waiting for: “Choose one.”
That simple ritual sparked my interest in watches. Over time, it grew into a love of Seiko. The value, the history and the design all spoke to me, and I wanted to try as many as I could—particularly the dive watches.
One watch led to another.
I bought through eBay and, having been taught well by my grandfather, knew how to seek out a good deal. I’d wear a watch, enjoy it for a while, then move it on to make room for the next one. Each brought something new to discover.
The Seikologist began on eBay in 2010. Over the years, hundreds of sales followed, alongside a growing knowledge of Seiko watches and hands-on experience restoring and modifying them.
Eventually, I put The Seikologist to one side to focus on my growing young family. They come first, and always will.
A new chapter. The same curiosity.
Now I’m back, bringing you a carefully curated selection of pre-loved Seiko watches that I personally love. These are watches I’m interested in myself, chosen with the same curiosity that started with a roll of kitchen paper all those years ago.
If you have a question about a watch, please ask. I’m happy to talk through the details and help you decide whether it’s the right one for you.
And if you’re thinking of selling your Seiko, I’d love to hear from you.
